Leeds’ Blacklisters popped up on our radar again last week with the preview of forthcoming single ‘Trickfuck’ but, for this writer, Dirty Three’s announcement and witnessing the blistering Shield Your Eyes live show took precedence.
Blacklisters don’t bring anything blindingly original to the UK hardcore scene but everything they do is pitched perfectly between threatening aggression and unhinged fury, delivered dirty, angry and sweaty. Just as it should be. Immediately evocative of 80’s Touch and Go and with a vocal style reminiscent of the more recent stateside stylings of Glassjaw or Daughters, Blacklisters inject fresh energy and venom into the UK scene and, although the aesthetic may have us believe otherwise, they know exactly what they’re doing.
Singles, a split and an EP are available through the bandcamp while a full length is due for release in the next few months through Brew Records.
